Texas children heading back to school this month may find a cafeteria that's open to all students before school, a new focus on mental health on their campuses and fewer police officers writing misdemeanor tickets when students act out.

New Report Highlights Wins for Texas Children in 83rd Texas Legislature

Two years after the Texas Legislature gutted funding for schools and services that benefit children, state leaders opted to partially restore resources for schools and to improve investments in maternal health, child abuse prevention, early childhood services and mental health, an assessment out today from Texans Care for Children shows.

Be Sure Texas Kids Get the Same Health Opportunities as Children in Other States

The third anniversary of the Affordable Care Act's passage is March 23. This policy brief points out how important it is for Texas to implement the law, including accepting funds for Medicaid expansion, if the state wants to keep up progress in ensuring more Texas children have access to the health care they need.
